When should children first visit the dentist?
Most dental associations recommend bringing children in for their first check-up around the time their first tooth appears, usually between six and twelve months, or no later than their first birthday. Early visits are about familiarising your child with the environment, establishing a relationship with the dental team and making sure development is on track.
Is your child eligible for free dental care?
Alderley Dental is a strong advocate of the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, a Medicare-funded programme that provides eligible children aged 0 to 17 with access to free dental services up to the value of $1,052 over two calendar years.
To be eligible your child must be covered by Medicare and either receiving an eligible Centrelink payment or have a parent or guardian receiving one. The programme covers check-ups, cleans, x-rays, fillings, fissure seals, extractions and root canal treatment. At Alderley Dental we bulk-bill eligible CDBS patients on the spot through Medicare, meaning there is no upfront cost for families who qualify.

This includes first visits and check-ups for toddlers and young children, routine cleans and x-rays, fillings, fissure seals to protect the back teeth from decay, extractions where necessary, orthodontic assessments and referrals, and oral health education throughout every appointment.
