How Invisalign works

Invisalign uses a series of custom made, clear aligners designed to move your teeth gradually towards their planned positions.

Unlike fixed braces, Invisalign aligners are removable. You can take them out for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth, making it easier to maintain your normal oral hygiene routine throughout treatment.

You’ll progress through a series of aligners as directed by your dentist, with review appointments used to monitor how your teeth are responding to treatment.

Because every smile is different, the number of aligners required and overall treatment time will depend on your individual needs.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

After assessing your smile, we can give you a more meaningful estimate based on your individual treatment plan.

How often do I need to wear Invisalign aligners?

Clear aligners generally need to be worn for most of the day and night to work as planned, removing them primarily for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth.

Your dentist will give you specific wear instructions based on your treatment plan.

Can I eat normally with Invisalign?

One advantage of removable clear aligners is that you take them out when eating.

This means there are generally fewer food restrictions than with fixed braces. You’ll need to clean your teeth appropriately before replacing your aligners and follow the care instructions provided by your dentist.

Is Invisalign painful?

It’s common to experience some pressure or temporary tenderness when you begin wearing a new aligner because the aligner is applying controlled pressure to move your teeth.

Will I need a retainer after Invisalign?
